Psalm 2: Blessed is the man who trusts in God

Speaker: Asher Chang + Rev David Tan

Introduction:

Psalm 1 refers to "Blessed is the man who Blessed is the man who meditates His law day and night. " Psalm 2 goes on to refer to the blessed "...... Blessed is everyone who trusts in him. " This "he" refers to all the kings of the house of David, for God promises that the house of David will never be without a man to sit on David's throne, meaning that God will always be the support of the house of David.

This is a psalm that describes the enthronement of the kings of the house of David. The leaders of the kingdoms took advantage of the rise of the new king and attempted to unite in rebellion, as if to get rid of God's rule.

1. The world's unhelpful rebellion (V1-3)

The Psalmist is describing a time when the kings of the Gentiles were scheming and deliberating to rise up against God and His anointed. Today, there are still many who do not know God who are like these Gentile kings. They desire to seize the authority of Jesus Christ, and in their pride they oppose our God. They do not accept the kings that God has made, but want to make themselves the standard of right and wrong, which is what the kings of the world and prince of the power of the air intended to do.

These kings and Gentiles say that they want to break their bonds and cords, that is, they do not want to be governed by God any more, and for them the Word of God is like a bondage. This is unhelpful, but it is a phenomenon in the world.

2. God's Chosen King (V4-6)

It is an incredible thing that the created kings of the earth should be at enmity with the great Creator of heaven. So the psalmist describes God as laughing at them from heaven.

The first Psalmist mentions that we are blessed when we love the law of the Lord and meditate about it day and night. Yet human nature does not like this, so it can be tempting to feel misunderstood and bound, and therefore to want to break away from it. When the powers of the world had many plans and schemes, God set His King firmly on Mount Zion.

3. All the nations to the anointed one (V7-9)

Mount Zion will never be shaken, and God has made a holy decree to the Anointed One, saying, "‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession." V 6-8 That is to say, all the nations of the world have come under the authority of this Anointed One.

4. Obedience to God's Chosen King (V10-12)

"Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth!" V10 The original text is "be wise", which means to be wise, to remind us to be wise and to rise up in obedience to God's chosen King! The original text for "trust" is "take refuge", that is, God becomes their refuge. When we are willing to be disciplined and to know ourselves according to the discipline we have received and to stop being self-centred, we are trusting God. We are then blessed, for God will certainly be our fortress and we will become the body of Christ.

Conclusion: Be wise and trust God!

We need to be awaken, walk away from the confusion and bewilderment of the world and rise up to God. When we have a life of obedience, God will hear our prayers because our life is the right life, a life of humility and submission to authority. When we ask, God gives us the nations as an inheritance and our names will be above all.
