Introduction: Are you on God's side?
1. What are the choices in times of trouble?
(1) Choose to turn or flee (v1)
To 'flee as a bird to your mountain' means to hide in a safe place or to solve a problem in the way that man thinks is reasonable.
Saul tried to kill David several times because he was jealous of him. So when David came to the temple to take shelter, his friends advised him to flee the temple quickly and find a more distant and secluded place to shelter from Saul. But this advice was rejected by David, firmly. For David was steadfast in his belief that God was the source of his peace and his refuge. Therefore, he firmly chose to turn to God rather than to run away.
When we face crises and troubles, if God is still not moving today, do our hearts continue to be tightly connected to Him? Do we still choose to stand on God's side and trust Him?
(2) The consequences of running away (v2-3)
David's friends advised him to flee because his life was at stake. The foundation of justice and righteousness for the whole nation had been destroyed by King Saul's disobedience and jealousy. At a time when the foundations had been dismantled and the wicked thief was in charge, David had no place to stand, so how could he turn the situation around on his own?
Although his friends' analyses were well founded, David, who was after God's own heart, did not choose to run away because he knew God. For he knew that using human methods would only provide a temporary escape from a temporary problem, but would not solve the enemy's attack on the foundations of faith.
There is no protection behind the full armour of God. For God does not want us to be deserters. Only when we turn to God and face them with courage can we rise above the difficulties and stand firm on the foundations of our faith.
2. You will see God when you trust in the Lord (v4-7)
(1) God is still reigning (v4)
In v4, God is seen to have never taken His eyes off all His creatures and protects those who will trust Him on three levels.
First, although God is the omnipresent God. But He is present with man through the temple. The church is the home God has prepared for us. Do we desire to come to God's house to worship Him and experience His works? Are we willing to share with the spiritual authorities or cell group leaders of the church when we encounter trials?
Second, God is not dead. Even though the earthly temple may one day be destroyed, God's throne is established in heaven and will never be shaken. No person, thing, or object can stand in the way of His plan. Therefore, we can come to God without reservation.
Finally, God sees everything. God's wise eye is always watching the world. So we do not have to worry about God standing by. He not only understands, being considerate, and cares for our difficulties, but He is also a just and righteous God. He sees all your grievances. Therefore, if we trust in Him with all our hearts, we will experience the salvation of His mighty hand.
(2) God tests and elevates the righteous (v5-7)
God’s testing is the way for every child of God to be purified and victorious. No one can wear a graduation hat without an examination, no one can succeed without experiencing failure, and no one can have a glorious experience of victory without the test of spiritual warfare. Every difficulty in life is a necessary path to growth and maturity. V7 Seeing His face: That is, experiencing the presence and favour of God. God expects us to be with Him at all times, and to receive the blessings and favour He has prepared for us before the foundation of the world.
Conclusion:
In every challenge and tribulation of life, let us say: I am trusting in the Lord! and firmly believe that God knows our afflictions and has the best plan for us. In every battle, let us choose to draw closer to God and trust in Him. Let God lead us to face each battle with courage, and know that victory is of the Lord. In this way, we must greatly experience God's presence and favour, and become witnesses of God's glory.
