Exodus 9
One plague after another to make people repent

The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Daniel

I. Plague-God’s mighty hand controls everything (Exodus 9:1-7)

1. God gives a clear warning (V1-5)

Moses conveyed God's command and warned Pharaoh: If you refuse to let them go, I will send a plague on your livestock. Furthermore, God clearly stated that this disaster would occur the next day, giving Pharaoh time to repent.

God did not directly bring disaster but first issued a warning to give Pharaoh and the Egyptians a chance to repent. This shows God’s mercy and patience. It is the hope that people will wake up from the warning, repent and turn back to Him.

2. A hard heart does not believe in miracles (V6-7)

The next day, the disaster God said happened. Egypt's livestock suffered a massive death, but the Israelites' livestock suffered no loss. But Pharaoh's heart was still hard, he did not believe in miracles, and he was unwilling to repent.

Summary:

This plague shows that God is in control of everything, and only by following Him can we find peace and a way out. May we listen carefully, repent in time, and live a life of obedience and grace.

II. Boils-God will make the proud bow their heads (Exodus 9:8-12)

God told Moses to take the ashes and raise them to heaven. As a result, both the Egyptians and their livestock developed malignant sores. What is particularly ironic is that even the Egyptian magicians, who could change snakes, water, and blood, were also affected by the trick, and were so painful that they could not even stand.

Regardless of status, pride can cause people to fall. When facing difficulties, are we as stubborn as Pharaoh and ignore God’s warning and grace? True transformation comes from recognizing your own shortcomings, bowing to God, and accepting His leadership. Only then can you stand up again after falling and live in blessings.

III. Hailstorm-God’s grace is hidden in the warning (Exodus 9:13-35)

1. God gives another chance (V13-15)

God warned Pharaoh through Moses that devastating hail would fall. This was not only a declaration of punishment but also gave Pharaoh and the Egyptians another opportunity to repent and demonstrate God's justice and love.

2. God wants to show his power (V16-26)

God did not bring disasters to destroy Egypt, but to show mercy to keep Pharaoh alive. His purpose was to demonstrate His power and give Pharaoh, the Egyptians, and the whole earth the opportunity to know God! Hail, thunder, and fire only strike those and things that refuse to repent. Through this natural disaster, God clearly demonstrated His severity towards the disobedient and also demonstrated His special protection for those who obey His words!

3. The repentance of Pharaoh’s mouth (V27-35)

This was the first time Pharaoh confessed! But Pharaoh did not repent sincerely. He had no choice but to ask God because he was afraid and wanted to escape danger. As soon as the disaster stopped, he returned to his original hard state.

Summary:

Hail disasters reveal God’s justice and grace. Every setback is a reminder of God’s grace, prompting us to humbly repent and seek His guidance. Those who obey God will eventually find grace and experience His protection and love.

Conclusion: Don’t let yourself become a ‘stubborn Pharaoh’

We are often like stubborn Pharaoh, knowing we are wrong but not repenting. God’s plagues one after another is not to torture, but to remind us to turn around and give us repeated opportunities, because His intention is not to destroy, but to restore!
