Exodus 39
Serving God with the Heart

The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Deborah
The heart determines a person’s thoughts, words, actions, and direction. It also determines how we serve God. As Proverbs 4:23 states: “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” Whether in our daily lives or in church ministry, the heart is of utmost importance.
In Exodus 39, the Israelites followed God’s instructions in making the priestly garments and all the furnishings of the tabernacle. The most critical aspect was not their skills or materials but their hearts. How did they fulfill God’s commission in a way that satisfied Moses and led to his blessing upon them?
Similarly, in our service today, we must ask: What do we rely on when serving God? Is our service pleasing to Him and bringing forth blessings?
In Exodus 39, the phrase “as the Lord had commanded Moses” is repeated at least nine times regarding the construction of the tabernacle, the sacred garments of the priests, and the ephod.
Moses, who grew up in Pharaoh’s palace, was familiar with Egypt’s exquisite craftsmanship in royal attire, jewelry, and ornaments. However, he did not insert his personal opinions or adjust God’s instructions based on his experiences or Egypt’s standards. Instead, he strictly followed God’s commands and faithfully conveyed them to the people without deviation.
Moses’ faithfulness reminds us that in our families, workplaces, and communities, we are responsible for faithfully conveying God’s commands, truth, and values to those around us. Faithfully sharing God’s word brings His blessings.
The high priest’s breastplate was adorned with twelve stones, symbolizing the twelve tribes of Israel, signifying the priest’s responsibility to bear the people and intercede for them. Jesus has already borne our sins and intercedes for us. Today, as a “royal priesthood,” we must also wholeheartedly undertake the mission of the gospel, reconciling people with God. In both church and daily life, we are called to be peacemakers, promoting harmony among people.
a. Unity Without Division
The priestly robe was a complete set, including the outer robe, inner tunic, turban, and sash. Each item held significant meaning. The alternating bells and pomegranates on the hem of the robe illustrate the importance of mutual support in God’s work.
In team ministry, each person has their own responsibilities. At the same time, unity is essential, with everyone working together with one purpose—to glorify God.
b. Unity in Spiritual Growth
The priestly garments symbolize spiritual growth: the fine linen tunic represents purity and humility, the bells signify vigilance, and the pomegranates represent spiritual fruit. Serving together as a team provides opportunities for spiritual growth. Through collaboration, our inner lives are refined, producing much spiritual fruit.
After the work was completed, Moses did not criticize or take credit for himself; instead, he blessed the people.
In church and ministry, we often focus on whether goals are achieved while neglecting the efforts and growth of team members. A true spiritual leader not only ensures the completion of tasks but also acknowledges the contributions of the team, offering words of affirmation and blessings. This strengthens their confidence and motivation in serving God. True leadership is not merely about accomplishing tasks but about shepherding the team with love.
•Faithfully convey God’s word without compromise.
•Wholeheartedly fulfill God’s commission.
•Support one another in unity, building each other up.
•Live out a godly influence and become a vessel of blessing to others.
