The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Stella
When the Israelites were trapped in the hopeless condition of slavery in Egypt, they could not save themselves by their own strength. Only God's intervention could bring about true deliverance.
1. Life Begins in Darkness (V1-2)
Despite the threat of death, Moses' parents did not give up. They bravely gave birth to him and hid him for three months. Seeing that Moses was a "beautiful" child (the Hebrew word implies "good" or "special"), his parents recognized God's special intention for him. They trusted that God would preserve his life and fulfill His plan through him.
2. Protection Beyond Human Effort (V3-6)
God orchestrated events so that Pharaoh's daughter would find Moses. She happened to come to the river Nile, saw the basket among the reeds, and heard the baby's cry, which moved her with compassion. Such a series of "coincidences" clearly reveals God's hand at work, implementing His plan in unexpected ways.
In our lives, God's protection may not be immediately evident, but He constantly watches over us and leads us toward His purpose.
1. Equipped in the Palace (V7-10)
Moses grew up in Pharaoh's palace, where he was exposed to Egyptian culture, education, and administrative skills. These experiences were part of God's preparation for Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. This reminds us that the environments and training we go through are often part of God's plan.
2. Trials During Growth (V11-15)
When Moses witnessed the oppression of the Hebrews, his desire to save his people stirred within him. However, he acted impulsively by killing an Egyptian, forcing him to flee into the wilderness for forty years.
In our failures and low points, God often shapes our character, teaching us to rely on Him rather than ourselves.
1. Learning Humility in the Wilderness (V16-22)
In the wilderness, Moses met the priest of Midian and married his daughter. This seemingly ordinary event was actually a bridge to Moses' future mission. Shepherding in the wilderness for forty years transformed Moses from prideful to humble.
2. God Remembers and Responds (V23-25)
This passage shows God's sovereignty over all circumstances. He "heard," "remembered," "looked upon," and "acknowledged" the cries of His people (V24-25). While preparing Moses in the wilderness, God also prepared the hearts of the Israelites in Egypt, bringing them to a point of "groaning and crying out" with a willingness to leave Egypt.
We may not understand why God allows certain experiences, but through them, He is shaping us to fulfill His purpose. When we pray in our suffering, God’s response may seem delayed, but He never forgets His promises.
When we face challenges and crises in life, we must trust that God's plan is always at work.
