Introduction:
Jesus Christ explained Himself in Isaiah 53, the authors of all four Gospels have directed our attention to Isaiah 53, and even the apostles have quoted Isaiah 53 extensively to bring out the fact that Jesus is the Messiah.
I. He was despised and rejected (V1-3)
Jesus grew up like a common man and was born into poverty. His look is also not outstanding, and his appearance and demeanour are not particularly attractive, and it does not meet the image of a king that people expect. Because He deliberately humbled Himself so that He was inconspicuous, He was despised and rejected by others and suffered much pain and grief. In the eyes of the world, they only see an ordinary, unfortunate person. Therefore, they do not see that Jesus Christ is the arm of God and the Redeemer of mankind.
II. He was punished by God on behalf of man (V4-6)
When we act on our own terms, we create a society of constant conflict, struggle, and inability to solve problems because we all insist on doing our own way. Therefore, in order for us to be redeemed by Jesus, we have to admit that “All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way;”. Then believe the next sentence,“the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all”. He took the punishment we deserved, freed us from all bondage to sin, so that we may be truly free.
III. He was willing to be a sin offering (V7-10a)
In Old Testament times, sinners used the blood of the sinless lamb as the wages of sin in replace of life that should have died. However, Jesus willingly descended from exalted position to a sinless lamb to be slaughtered. Furthermore, atonement for the sins of all men, so that the sins of the world may be forgiven and reconciled with God.
IV. He is the King of the Kingdom of God (V10b-12)
When Jesus was on earth, he did not speak and act according to His own will, but according to the will of God, the Father. He humbled Himself and emptied Himself in order to do what was pleasing to God, the Father and to accomplish salvation for the world. We have seen Jesus who experienced the suffering of the cross and was finally exalted by God, and God brought Him into a glorious and incomparable glory far beyond our imagination. Jesus Christ is the King of the Kingdom of God.
Conclusion:
Today, if we believe and confess that Jesus Christ is our Saviour, that means we are to follow Jesus Christ, and we are going to walk in the same way that Jesus Christ walked. Although we may face challenges and pain, but through our obedience in the midst of suffering, God will elevate us to the highest spot, so we may reign with Christ.
