Introduction: Why do people hold 'grand funerals'? Because they are rich, so they show off?

1. Reflection of escaping from Calamity (V1)

It is said here that after escaping from calamity, a great power of darkness came, which seemed glorious and good on the surface, but was a great snare. In the previous chapter, it was said that Hezekiah was dying of a terminal illness, but he cried out to God for healing, and God had mercy on him and gave him 15 more years to live. That's what led to the subsequent corruption and the birth of the worst son, who became the most corrupt king, a series of problems.

To be able to pray and experience the miracle of healing is certainly a glorious thing. But if one does not grasp the testimony of living for the Lord, it is better to be called back to heaven at the best of times than to face the judgment with fear and trembling at the end of one's days!

2. The king was pleased to see the messenger (V2)

There is an old saying that says: "Wealth must not be seen! It means that money and valuables should not be seen by others, so as not to attract disaster. It is used to advise people to take care of their money. King Hezekiah obviously committed this taboo, so he lost it all in the end.

Why did Hezekiah like to see the messenger? It is in human nature to be praised and flattered. Especially when one is really rich and powerful and has really great glory, one usually likes to be seen and praised by others. Be very careful whether such a state of mind is a sign of pride and self-aggrandizement. Understand that our God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

3. Man's showing off takes away from God's glory (V3-4)

Why did he show the messenger his abundant riches one by one? Because it was bound to be greatly flattered and praised by the messenger. How to show yourself really powerful, glorious, mighty, valiant, and strong as soon as you come ----. People will get carried away in the process, forgetting God's grace, thinking they are great, and eventually robbing God of His glory. Forgetting that all achievements are the works and blessings of God. This is man's sin, falling short of the glory of God. 4. Show-offs lose everything (V5-7) God speaks very sternly through the mouth of the prophet about the consequences of boasting, not only in terms of losing everything, but also in terms of spilling over to future generations. How many people today will think about the condition of their children and grandchildren?

We need to be serious about God so that our generations will be blessed.

Conclusion: O curse of the generations! (V8)

It doesn't even matter if future generations are cursed! What kind of terrible mentality is this? How can you be so proud and yet so selfish that you don't even care about your own children and grandchildren?
