1 Chronicles 15 Rebuilding God's Presence
GK611 Morning Devotion

The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Deborah Tan
Introduction: The bravest person
1. Realigning receive the ark of God again (v1-15)
(1) Self-Reflection, Illuminated by God (v1-2)
In Tuesday's 13th chapter, read about how the ceremony of transporting the ark of the God resulted in the sorrowful and dsmay of burying Uzzah because the ark was transported in a way that was not to God's liking. As a result, David, out of fear and discouragement, left the ark of God with Obe-Edom for the time being.
I'm sure David must have done a lot of soul-searching during those three months and realised where he had gone wrong, hence v2 David said, "No one may carry the ark of God but the Levite," In the records of Deuteronomy and Numbers, God had long ago chosen the tribe of Kohath among the Levites to be responsible for carrying the ark of God and to serve Him forever.
Brothers and sisters, when we make mistakes, God is pleased to let us know what the mistakes are. Therefore, we should not blame ourselves, run away, or blame God for our failures. Instead, we should come boldly to God and seek Him.
2. Courageously face and fix the mistakes (v3-15)
a) Correction in behaviour (v3-10)
David understood God’s heart and rose up courageously to face his faults and to re-correct his behaviour. This time he strictly followed the Law and chose the right group of Levites to meet the ark of God.
b) Adjustment of the mindset (v11-13)
David reminded the priests and the Levitical tribe leaders that they should know what their duties were and that they should familiarise themselves with God's laws and regulations. When they saw that David was going to use oxen to carry the Ark of God, they actually had a duty to speak up to David and suggest that God's command was that the Ark of God was to be carried by men.
When those in authority come up with strategies that are not in line with some of the laws of the company or even the government, it is our duty to speak out boldly to them. As a supervisor or authority, we must also have the humility to accept the honesty of our subordinates who speak in love, just as David did.
c) Correction in life (v14-15)
The Ark of God represents the presence of God. No man can see the face of the Lord unless he is holy. Therefore, David commanded the priests, the Levites, to purify themselves, and the sons of Levi to earnestly pay the price of carrying the ark of God on their bars and shoulders. Without partiality and in obedience do as the Lord commanded through Moses.
Though David had failed and was afraid and discouraged. But because of his love and fear of God, he was willing to correct his mistakes and start again. Let us also learn that we are not discouraged when we fall. Rather, we rely on God’s help to get up, pat the dust on our bodies to adjust our steps, and move forward again in the right way. For failure is only proof that this way is not possible. Rely on God to recorrect and accumulate experience in order to pave the way of victory.
2. Reorganising the team to do its job (v16-24)
David next rigorously instructed the Levitical tribe leaders to re-establish the worship team. Those who played musical instruments, those who sang, those who blew trumpets before the ark of God, those who guarded the door before the ark of God, and worship leaders, the head of the worship team and those who taught vocal. Each person's position and every detail is clearly explained.
For Christians to operate God's presence, worship is absolutely indispensable. Because we were created to worship God. And worship is one of those important gifts that will survive into eternity. While it is important to be alone with God, this passage also gives us a special insight into God's desire to see His children come to His house in unity and seek Him in corporate worship.
In addition, gatekeepers are listed in the worship, especially in Obed- Edom. It was Obed-Edom's destiny to be a gatekeeper, and he was passionate and eager. When Uzzah was killed, the people felt that the Ark of God was like a ticking time bomb and were reluctant to take it in, but Obed-Edom was willing, and so God remembered all that Obed-Edom had done. The Ark of God stayed in the house of Obed-Edom for three months. God blessed him greatly.
I encourage the brothers and sisters in the worship team not to underestimate their own service. You are all like Obed-Edom, operating in God's presence, guarding the temple doors and keeping God's presence. Pray that in your respective roles, you will be united in one heart and worship in spirit and in truth.
3. Rejoice in the sacrifice and be with God (v25-29)
First of all the Scriptures show us that receiving the Ark of the God was not a matter for certain people, but for all Israel. It was not just David and the Levites who were to come and worship God, but the whole Israel.
We are not the only ones who are to worship Jesus today. Our whole family has to come and believe in Jesus. The whole community of Shunfu, the whole of Singapore is going to come to believe in Jesus. So let's seize the opportunity to evangelise.
In addition to the sacrifice of the seven bulls and the seven rams.V28 David rejoiced with all the people of Israel, and shouted for joy and shouting and with the sound of the horn, with trumpets and with cymbals, making music with stringed instruments and harps. When the Ark of God came to Jerusalem, the whole scene in the city was in an atmosphere of celebratory boisterousness.
When we come on a pilgrimage to see the face of God, what kind of mood and pace do we come with? What is our attitude when we come to church for worship each week? Arriving late? Dragging our feet? Do we worship with joy like the people of Israel? Dance enthusiastically like David?
While the whole city was celebrating, Michal, Saul's daughter, saw King David dancing enthusiastically, and despised him in her heart. For she thought it disgraceful for a high and mighty king to dance in front of his servants and maids without regard for decency. Michal's concern was for the honour of upper class, but David's concern was to find the presence of God.
Brothers and sisters, are we happy in our lives? Are we happy in our service? What are the obstacles in our lives that prevent us from rejoicing in God?
Conclusion: Keeping God's Presence
David readjusted from his failure and used God's way to finally bring the ark of God back to Jerusalem so that Jerusalem would finally become the centre of worship for the people of Israel.
No matter what the reason is that we have lost our zeal to worship God, or perhaps each week we come to worship God with an incorrect attitude and mindset, today, let's rededicate ourselves to offering a worship in spirit and in truth to God wholeheartedly with a heart that is truly in fear of God and joyful. Keep the presence of God!
