Matthew Chapter 20:

The Culture of the Kingdom of Heaven

Introduction:

Each country has its own culture.

1. The Parable of the Vineyard: Grace Transcends Logic

1) God’s higher purpose and grace (V1-10)

The owner of the vineyard kept hiring workers, and whoever arrived from morning to night would receive a denarius. This is the grace of heaven. It is not a reward based on work, but God’s desire for everyone to receive salvation. Those who "stand idle" are like lives without purpose, but the Lord's mercy accepts them into His kingdom and gives them value. This is God’s grace and will. Sometimes we don’t understand it, but grace is not competition, but the starting point of gratitude. Don’t be jealous of the grace of others but focus on your God-given mission.

2) Many are called but few are chosen (V11-16)

The scripture mentions that the original word for “red eye” means “evil,” reminding us of the dangers of jealousy. Heavenly culture is God’s grace and mercy, not comparison. We are not worthy to enter the kingdom of God, but we are saved by grace. Therefore, we should always be grateful instead of focusing on others. 2. The Sacrifice of Jesus: An Example of Heavenly Culture (V17-19)

Jesus predicted the crucifixion for the third time, specifically mentioning that he went to Jerusalem to complete the great work of redemption. He was willing to bear the cross and lay down his life for the vision of the kingdom of heaven. This sacrifice is the core of the culture of the kingdom of heaven. Heavenly culture requires sacrifice. Only when you are willing to pay the price can you truly live out God's will.

3. The definition of greatness: service rather than power (V20-28)

Zebedee’s mother asked Jesus to give her son a high position in the Kingdom of Heaven, but Jesus pointed out that the greatness of the Kingdom lies in service, not power. He emphasized that “the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.” The culture of the kingdom of heaven subverts the logic of the earth. True greatness lies in humility and service.

4. Follow Jesus: See Him, Respond to Him (V29-34)

Jesus healed two blind men in this passage. Not only did He restore their sight, He also awakened their faith. The ultimate call of heavenly culture is for us to see Jesus and be willing to follow Him. His service tells us that the true meaning of life lies in knowing God and responding to His love with actions.

Conclusion:
Reflections and Responses of Heavenly Culture

Lord, please help us understand the true meaning of heavenly culture and be willing to pay the price to follow You. May our lives be transformed by Your grace and may Your name be glorified by serving others.
