Introduction: We are all little Christs
1. Jesus defeated temptation (V1-13)
(1) The temptation of fleshly needs (V1-4)
When faced with physical needs, the evil one will often stand by us to give us advice, making us feel that solving our immediate needs is the priority.
These may allow us to go with the flow, be reasonable, and feel at ease to consider the needs of the flesh, but in fact, departing from all the words that come out of God’s mouth means leaving the source of life and heading toward death.
(2) The temptation of being in high places (V5-8)
When people stand in high places, it is easy to fall into the temptation of arrogance, self-absorption, and arrogance. Because intoxicated with power, glory, and carelessness.
We need to be alert. In our current environment, have we grasped that some things are more important than God? Let us hold on to God whether we are high or low, and serve Him alone.
(3) The temptation of gifted power (V9-13)
The devil also uses scripture and provocations to draw us away from God and into chaos. Today, when we are facing difficulties, there may be people around us who do not know God who will challenge us and ask us why our God does not help us.
We must be careful not to tempt our God, for His purposes are higher than ours.
2. Jesus preached by the Holy Spirit (V14-15)
Jesus was full of the power of the Holy Spirit whether in temptation or in preaching. And wherever he went, His fame spread far and wide, and everyone praised Him.
3. Jesus was rejected by others (V16-30)
When Jesus returned to his hometown to preach and even declared that He was the Messiah, everyone reacted with doubts.
Because everyone was so familiar with Jesus and only saw Him as the son of Joseph and a fellow member of his own clan, they all chose not to believe Him. Because of their unbelief, Jesus stopped performing miracles there.
This also reminds us not to be blinded by too much familiarity. Especially when someone we are familiar with is promoted to a small group leader, a co-worker, or a preacher, we must regard them as our leaders and not look down upon them because we are too familiar with them.
4. Jesus’ Words are with authority (V31-37)
Jesus was rejected in his hometown, so he turned to other places to preach the gospel, and the message and power of the kingdom of God came to other places. He can make people feel the authority of God in His Words, and thus develop a heart of reverence and obedience to God. So, people heard that there was authority in His words.
5. The healing power of Jesus (V38-41)
Jesus heals all those who long for Jesus and come to Him. Many people come to Jesus just to heal the sick and cast out demons, not to hear the sermon; they just want to solve people's needs instead of seeking God; they just want to escape from foreign rule, not their own crime. But the Lord Jesus laid hands on each of them without distinction and healed them.
6. Jesus carried out the Great Commission (V42-44)
The Lord Jesus Christ became flesh to serve people, not according to people’s needs, but according to God’s will. He did not prove himself with his own abilities but was willing to humble himself and preach the kingdom of God among the people.
Conclusion:Jesus’ commitment is our model.
