Luke 19: Prepare Yourself for the Kingdom of God

The Morning Devotion Speaker: Pastor Stella Ling Luke 19: Prepare Yourself for the Kingdom of God
Introduction:
The Kingdom of God has come, we need to prepare ourselves to be the tree of life in the Kingdom of God, so that our lives may bear abundant and beautiful fruit.
1. Responding to Salvation - Repentance is the Key (v1-10)
Jesus’ work on earth has always been to seek the lost. Therefore, He had been going everywhere to preach the gospel. And Jesus saw one in the city of Jericho, Zacchaeus, who was a sinner in the eyes of others. Jesus’ acceptance and identification with him prompted him to declare that he would give half of all he had to the poor, bringing out a response to his salvation that showed he had truly accepted Jesus as Lord and was no longer bound by money or self-centered.
If we recognise our own corruption and need for salvation, it is the beginning of grace, for Jesus will come near to us and welcome us into the kingdom of God.
2. Be ready – Be Earnest in Your Service (v11-27)
Jesus used the parable of the 10 loaves of silver to bring out the point that believers should ulfil the responsibilities entrusted to them by the Lord, and seize the opportunities given to them by the Lord. Sometimes we think that we will wait until our career is successful, our children are grown up, or we retire before we can concentrate on our ministry, only to realise that when we think the time is right, the opportunity will never come.
Let us seize the opportunity to ulfil our commitment and prepare ourselves for the coming of the kingdom of God. Therefore, let us faithfully ulfil the Lord’s commission.
3. Always be vigilant- Turn back in time (v28-44)
The entry of the Lord Jesus into Jerusalem was the time for the people to accept Christ as King and to restore peace with God, but many were hardened and rejected God’s favour, and as a result could only miserably eat their own fruit. Brothers and sisters, we need to know that the decisions we make will affect us in the future. We need to know that today is the time for favour, and we need to seize the moment to pray for our family and friends who are not yet believers.
4. Cleanse your life – life to reflect (v45-48)
Jesus cast out those who were doing business in the temple in order to bring out that they were essentially "making godliness as means of gain" (1Ti 6:5), making the temple "a den of thieves" (v46). "Fame, profit, and power" have always been a lingering temptation for believers. No matter what form of "fame, profit and power" takes, it will ultimately blind the eyes of the heart and cause one to stray from Christ.
Therefore, a person who takes up the cross to follow the Lord should not only leave behind fame, profit and power, but also should not pick up the packaged dung halfway. If we have the truth today but are not willing to hear it, i.e., if we are not willing to reflect on it, like the people of Israel who listened to Jesus with their ears turned away from Him, our lives will continue to be in darkness, and we will not be able to be purified by God.
Conclusion:
Brothers and sisters, in the past Israel missed receiving this salvation because they were not willing to believe. However, we know that today God still gives them and the world the opportunity to receive this salvation. For those of us who have received salvation today, we must be vigilant and self-controlled so that we do not stray from God. We should also do our best to make the best use of all the Lord has entrusted to us and follow Him steadfastly to the end. In this way, we can always prepare ourselves for Christ's return.
