Introduction:The race between tortoise and hare

When we were young, the story of the tortoise and the hare racing tells us not to be proud or we lose the race. There are many aspects of this story that we should think about. If the hare had the chance to change its mindset and run the same race again, I believe it would have succeeded.

Losing a race is not a failure, if we stop at failure that is a failure forever. The only way to achieve our goal is to keep trying, stand up from our failures and try our best to get to the final destination.

1. Striving to come into perfection

(1) Strive to grow up(V1-3)

We should leave the foundation of Christ's truth V1, 'leave' means to move on, not to stagnate, but to grow spiritually into maturity.

The solidity and steadfastness of our faith requires that we continually seek to grow and progress. We must not be content with the faith that we had at the beginning of our conversion, but we must strive to continue to grow in spiritual maturity through equipping, memorising the Word of God and continuing to pray.

(2)Strive to move forward(V4-9)

We who have been saved and converted, who have personally experienced the gifts of the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the delights of God's Word, and who have experienced signs and wonders, should always remember with thanksgiving the faithfulness of God.

The author also constantly reminds and warns of the dangers of falling back in faith, that to turn away from the truth is to crucify Jesus again, as to betray and deny Christ, and that there is no more salvation, but the end is to be burned.

(3) Strive hard and not to be sluggish(V10-12)

God is a God of righteousness, and He will remember all that is laid up for Him. It is inevitable that we will encounter times of frustration, disappointment, lukewarmness and powerlessness in our ministry, but God knows all. We are to persevere to the end, aiming for the ultimate prize God has for us, and by faith and patience imitating those who in faith and patience continue to struggle and bear the promises.

2. Strive to hold on to the hope that lies ahead

(1) Perseverance and Patience: The Promise of God(V13-15)

God's promises are sure. God had promised Abraham that his descendants would be a multitude of nations, and by faith and patience he continued to trust God and to do His will. In the end, God's promise was fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

(2) Strive to trust God's oath(V16-18)

God does not lie. The "two immutable things" here refer to God's promises and God's oaths. One must seek confirmation of an oath by someone greater than oneself, otherwise the oath would be worthless. But God has no one greater than Himself to swear by, so His own Words are sufficient. God swears by Himself, and the oath that refers to God is as certain as His own existence.

Conclusion: Growing through failure, running without giving up, striving to enter into the presence of God(V19-20)

We may face many persecutions and challenges in the course of our faith and ministry that chill our hearts, but this is not the end of our journey. Jesus is our refuge, the anchor of our souls, our pioneer, our hope and surety of salvation.

We may be like the hare that once failed through ignorance. But we must not stop here, but rise up and continue to grow, striving to enter into perfection until we enter into the presence of God.
