2 Thessalonians 1: Tribulation and Glory
GK611 Morning Devotion

Speaker: Asher Chang

I. Greetings in times of adversity V1-2
The apostle Paul wrote the 1 Thessalonians and 2 Thessalonians a year after establishing the church in Thessalonica. The letter conveys that Paul is always grateful to the Thessalonian church and prays for them because Paul misses them very much. In addition, the Thessalonian church is facing a very difficult situation and they are facing great persecution, so Paul writes them a letter of encouragement.

II. Always give thanks and show glory of God

1. Perseverance and faith V 3- 4
1 Thessalonians mentioned "Pray always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in everything". Although the people of Thessalonica were facing persecution, their faith increased, and their love did not decrease because they have hope in adversity, are always thankful, and even so have perseverance and faith.

2. Hope of glory V 5
The love, faith, and perseverance of the Thessalonian believers in persecution and suffering are the result of God’s work in their hearts, and they have been reborn and saved. So, this is a testament to God's righteous judgment that they will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God in the judgment of the end time.

3. Believe in God's justice V 6-9
We will inevitably face unfairness and injustice in society, just like Thessalonica suffered tribulation, but they did not resist yet endured for the kingdom of God. They were troubled, but God gave them peace.

It also reminds us to avoid being a person who persecutes Christians, who does not know God, and who does not listen to the truth because there will be retribution from God.

4. Reveal the glory of the Lord V 10
The glory of Christ can be shown through our lives, through the sufferings of the Thessalonian church. When we find peace in the Lord, the glory of Christ is shown. Christ wants to be glorified in believers, and to perform miracles to amaze people. God wants people to see miracles in us.

III. Pray frequently and persevere the glory V11-12
If we are counted as worthy of our calling today, we will be worthy of the days to come. Maybe tomorrow we will be weak and fall, overcome by suffering, and fail again, this is our lifelong homework. That’s why Paul said that we should always pray so that God’s grace and power can always rest on us, so that our Lord Jesus can be glorified in us.

Conclusion
After believing in the Lord, it doesn’t mean that we don’t have tribulations or difficulties, but God’s Spirit comforts us in all challenges, so that we can gain confidence, love and persevere from them, and we can always give thanks, pray often, manifest the glory of Christ, and let His glory be revealed in us too.
As Paul said, rejoice in tribulation, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance, and perseverance produces character, and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
