The True Bread of Life, the Way to Eternal Life

Jesus does not only care for our souls, but He also understands our daily life needs.
1.Provision in Compassion (6:1–13)
The miracle of the five loaves and two fish occurred just before the Passover, symbolizing that Jesus is the greater Provider of “manna” and marking the beginning of His blessings. This miracle reminds us not to underestimate our small contributions—when placed in the hands of the Lord, they can achieve great things. God does not require perfection, but He desires our genuine offering.
2.Presence in the Storm (6:14–21)
As the disciples rowed toward Capernaum, they encountered a great storm. In the midst of it, they saw Jesus walking on the water and were afraid. Jesus said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” This revealed that He is the “I AM”, the self-existent God.
We also face storms in our lives, and Jesus doesn’t always calm the storm immediately, but He is present with us in the midst of it.
Jesus taught that we should not labor only for food that perishes but for the food that endures to everlasting life.
1.Earthly Bread Perishes (V22–27)
The crowd sought Jesus not because they understood the sign, but because they “ate the loaves and were filled.” Yet everything on earth will eventually perish. Only the “bread” from God can satisfy our inner being, soul, and eternal hunger.
2.Jesus is the Bread of Heaven (V28–40)
Doing the work of God is not about deeds, but about believing in the One He sent. Jesus Himself is the bread! He declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” Our spiritual life needs Jesus—we need to build a close relationship with Him.
The true Word not only attracts, but also challenges the heart, revealing our real spiritual condition.
1.The Word Causes Some to Turn Away (V41–66)
The people looked down on Jesus because they were “too familiar” with Him. When Jesus said, “Eat My flesh and drink My blood,” symbolizing union with His life, it was shocking. As a result, many left Him. They were unwilling to accept a gospel that demands sacrifice and faith.
2.A True Heart Chooses to Stay (V67–71)
Jesus asked, “Do you also want to go away?” Peter answered, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” True disciples stay because they recognize that Jesus is the only source of life.
In the face of confusion, trials, and spiritual challenges, are we willing to say like Peter: “Lord, to whom shall we go?”—even when we don’t fully understand, even when we struggle, we still do not leave His way.
