(I am who I am)。

Exodus 3
God is Calling You—Have You Responded?

Introduction:A Parent’s Heart

I. A Vessel Chosen by God (Exodus 3:1–5)

The Egyptians saw the Israelites' growing numbers as a threat and ordered the killing of all newborn Hebrew boys. However, Moses was spared because he was a vessel chosen by God. At age 40, Moses killed an Egyptian who was oppressing his fellow Hebrew. Fearing Pharaoh’s retaliation, he fled to Midian, becoming the son-in-law of Jethro, the priest of Midian, and living as a foreigner.

1. Burning but Not Consumed (v.1-2)

Human life, tainted by sin, resembles thornbushes full of thorns. To be used by the Lord, we must be refined by fire. God led Moses to Midian, using 40 years to refine him—not to destroy him, but to burn away the thorny parts of his life. Only then could he carry out God’s great mission.

Just as IP Asher’s Sunday sermon and Shimu’s response encouraged us, God calls us to surrender the negative aspects of our lives—materialism, fame, negative emotions, hurts, unforgiveness, broken relationships, and ungodly character or values. God’s fire is not meant to destroy us but to purify us so that we become vessels fit for His use.

2. Holy Because of God’s Presence (v.3-5)

When Moses approached the burning bush, God told him to remove his sandals because the ground he stood on was holy. Removing his sandals symbolized shedding the sins that entangle us and entering God’s holy presence to be sanctified.

The ground was holy because God was present. Humans cannot become holy on their own. We must humble ourselves before God, be illuminated by His truth, and repent through the Holy Spirit’s work. Only then can we become holy vessels for His use.

The church is a holy ground God has prepared for us. Morning devotion, 607 worship and prayer, equipping courses, and healing and deliverance courses are all gifts from God.

In “Launch 2025”, let us often come before God to wait on Him—not only to be revealed by the Light but also to take off with the wind of the Holy Spirit and be sent to His harvest field.

II. Responding to God’s Calling (Exodus 3:6–12)

1. God Sees, Hears, Knows, and Calls (v.6-10)

The phrase "I know" in Hebrew conveys personal experience and awareness. God told Moses that He had seen the oppression of His people in Egypt, heard their cries, and felt their suffering. Therefore, He called Moses to lead them out of Egypt to the Promised Land.

Today, people may not experience slavery like the Israelites, but many face suffering—loss of loved ones, marital struggles, rebellious children, financial difficulties, or being enslaved by sin. God sees, hears, and knows humanity’s pain. Just as He called Moses to deliver the Israelites, He calls us to share the Gospel with those in need. Have you responded?

2. People See, Hear, Know, and Excuse Themselves (v.11-12)

Moses saw the burning bush, heard God’s call, and understood God’s desire to save His people, yet he made excuses. His fear of returning to Egypt to face Pharaoh was understandable. At 80, he doubted his ability, qualifications, and strength. He asked, “Who am I?”

When faced with God’s call to serve, to expand our capacity, or to take risks, do we also excuse ourselves by asking, “Who am I?” Do we fear the cost of responding to His call?

God did not directly answer Moses’ question. Instead, He said, “I will certainly be with you.” To God, Moses’ identity was not important, what mattered was God’s presence.

Let us prioritize building a strong relationship with God. Then, when we see others’ needs, hear God’s call, and know His heart, we will not excuse ourselves but respond wholeheartedly!

III. Who Is Calling Me? (Exodus 3:13–22)

Although God promised to be with Moses, Moses hesitated further, using the excuse that the Israelites wouldn’t know God’s name.

Do you know the One who calls you?

1. The Faithful and Unchanging God (v.13-18)

When Moses asked God what name he should use to identify Him to the Israelites, God responded “I AM WHO I AM”.

God’s name, “I AM,” reflects His eternal, unchanging, and self-existent nature. He is not a created being but the source of all existence.

Understanding God’s faithfulness and unchanging nature is crucial. His faithfulness ensures He will complete our salvation. His care does not cease due to our failures or weaknesses. As long as we do not give up, God, who can do all things, will fulfill His promises.

2. The Gracious Provider (v.19-22)

God promised to stretch out His hand and strike Egypt with miraculous signs, leading Israel out of slavery. He assured Moses that the Israelites would find favor with the Egyptians, even leaving with their wealth.

Today, God’s mighty power delivers us not only from spiritual bondage but also provides for our practical needs. His abundant grace accompanies every step we take in responding to His call, ensuring we are never left empty-handed.

Conclusion: Have You Seen, Heard, and Responded to God?

• God has entrusted GK with the mission of Aliyah. How will you respond to His call?
•As God expands GK’s ministry with larger spaces and platforms, do you know your role in His grand plan?
•In the upcoming soul-saving initiatives and united worship services, as part of GK, will you be a passive observer or someone who wholeheartedly responds to His call?

May we truly know the One who calls us and respond to Him without reservation!
