1 Chronicles 29 Lead by Example in Offering

Introduction:

King David was not only a great king, but a great spiritual leader, and his dedication set an example for us.

1. David led the crowd in offering willingly (V1-9)

(1) David took the lead in offering generously (V1-5)

David himself set an example. Because he loved the temple of God in his heart, he did his best to prepare the materials for building the temple. He also donated the gold and silver he had saved to build the temple of God. As a leader, David did not hesitate to donate his personal savings and encouraged his people to do the same.

If we want to mobilise everyone to do something together today, we must first lead by example and dedicate ourselves first, and then others will follow. Especially those who have the hardest work and the most price to pay, they must take the lead and influence others with practical actions.

(2) All leaders are willing to respond (V6-9)

David's example of generosity led the leaders in donating gold, silver, and precious stones to build God's temple willingly. This willingness to give to God is a time of great rejoicing!

We should also give willingly and cheerfully. Whether it’s money, time, or talent, like David and the people of Israel, we must be willing to give everything we have. Contribution is not only material, but also our worship and obedience to God.

2. David praised God for being able to contribute (V10-20)

Here David prayed and praised God for everyone’s dedication. He praised Jehovah as the Most High and the Head of all, from whom all the riches and honours come. David admitted that he and his people were not worthy of consecration to God; they were only consecrating to God for all came from God.

Like David, we should acknowledge that everything we have comes from God. We may not be richer than David, but we can cultivate a heart that is willing to give and regard giving as an opportunity to participate in eternity and as God’s grace. Then, giving is no longer a burden but a joyful and thankful thing.

3. David’s rich and honourable life (V21-30)

1) Solomon was anointed king (V21-25)

David and the people held a grand sacrificial ceremony after the dedication, which showed their reverence and gratitude to God. David later formally anointed Solomon as king and received God's blessing and the people's obedience. Solomon's greatness and majesty were the blessings given to him by God, and they were also the result of David's leading by example and faithful service to God.

Our dedication and faithfulness will not only bring blessings from God but will also impact our descendants and those around us. We should lead others by example and lead others on the path of God so that they can also experience God’s blessing and guidance.

(2) Everything about David is remembered (V26-30)

David reigned for forty years, and his life was filled with riches and honours. When he was old, he passed away peacefully at the end of his days and passed the throne to Solomon. King David's deeds were recorded in detail in many books of the Bible, and his life became an example and teaching for future generations.

Our lives should be like David's, being able to serve as examples and teachings for future generations, setting an example of dedication and loyalty for future generations.

Conclusion:

Like David, let us lead by example and give to God willingly.
Our dedication is not to complete a temporary task, but to offer our whole life as a living sacrifice! Dedicate your life to serving God.
