Introduction: The Joy of Children

When the father promises to buy one of the child's favourite gifts, the child rejoices and becomes happy! Although the gift has not yet been delivered, he is already waiting for it with joy and happiness because he believes in his father's words.

If you received this gift today, how would you receive it?

1. Witness that the resurrection of Jesus is true! (V1-43)

(1) The Women (V1-12)

This group of women loved Jesus very much. They were the last group to leave Jesus at the end of His death, and they were the first group to bring spices to His tomb on the first day after His death.

The way it happened was:
(a) The women didn't believe that Jesus had risen, so they wanted to put spices on Jesus in the early hours of the morning.
(b) Seeing the stone being removed and the appearance of angels.
(c) Finally, they ran happily to inform Jesus' disciples and went back to the tomb with them to see the stone removed.

The women seemed to not believe in the resurrection and looked bad, but because of their love for Jesus, He appeared to them first. Although our faith can be affected by the circumstances around us, God allows us to see His appearances anyway if we have a love for the Lord.

(2) The two Emmaus disciples (V13-35) Jesus went to the two Emmaus disciples because Emmaus was twenty-five miles from Jerusalem, and they were the farthest away from Jesus, and they were also the ones who did not believe in His resurrection.

Although the two disciples heard Jesus explain to them about the Lord's resurrection in three days, they seemed to understand and not really accept it. But when they received Jesus, he broke bread for them and they recognised him. Although these two disciples had little faith, when they were willing to receive Jesus, He appeared to those who received Him!

(3) The Disciples (V36-43)

The disciples who were once closest to Jesus did not believe in His resurrection either. They even thought they had seen a ghost, and when they touched Jesus' hands and feet, they rejoiced but could not believe it. It wasn't until Jesus ate in front of them and showed them that he had risen. The disciples' faith was weak, but Jesus sympathized with their weakness.

2. Responding to the power of Jesus' resurrection! (V44-53)

(1) Arise and Witness (V44-48)

The women believed in Jesus' resurrection and they rose up to witness. The two Emmaus-bound disciples saw it and witnessed to the others. As they witnessed, Jesus appeared among them. Jesus said, "Now we are all witnesses to these things! We can all rise up and witness the resurrection of Jesus.

(2) Faithful Dependence (V49)

Jesus promised to bring down on us what the Father promises every day, and to wait in the city until we receive the power from above. We are to wait for the Holy Spirit's direction and rely on the Holy Spirit.

(3) Rejoice and be glad (V50-52)

Jesus is the living God, and we no longer grieve because of death. Because the resurrection is from the dead, and the dead are made alive, there is hope for all things.

(4) Praise without ceasing (V53)

If we believe that Jesus is truly risen, we should praise Him often in the temple.

Conclusion: Let us rejoice, for Jesus is the living Lord and His love endures forever!
